Resources to Help Prepare Houses of Worship for Emergencies

sclawThe South Carolina Law Enforcement Officers’ Association has made available a list of resources to help houses of worship prepare for emergencies. Topics in this list of resources include Emergency Operations Planning Resources, Active Shooter Preparedness Resources, and free online independent study courses in emergency planning and preparations.

A direct link to that list of resources is found on this web page under the link for “Disaster Response” in the list of topics on the right-hand side of the home page.

Also included in the list of resources is a link to the recording of the webinar. Pastors and other church leaders are encouraged to watch the webinar for additional information. If not addressed initially, these topics should be considered for inclusion in a local church’s disaster response plan.

Printed below is an invitation from Rev. Michael Smith to participate in a Counter Rally on Saturday, July 18, sponsored by Trenholm Rd. United Methodist Church:

“Brothers and sisters,

On behalf of our Associate Pastor, Zach Dillard, and the people of Trenholm Road United Methodist Church, I want to invite you…to join us at the South Carolina State House for a Counter Rally of Prayer on Saturday July 18th, the same day and time the Ku Klux Klan will hold their rally on the capitol grounds.

We are calling all who are opposed to racism and the Christless ideology of the Ku Klux Klan to join us to bear witness to the life-giving and life-changing love of Jesus Christ as we pray both in opposition to their message, as well as for the redemption of those who adhere to it.

As the KKK gathers on the South Grounds of the State House for their rally from 3:00 pm – 5:00 pm, we will gather on the East Grounds/Gardens for our Counter Rally of Prayer at the same time.

Elders [of the United Methodist Church] are asked to wear stoles (no robes or other vestments).

We hope to see you there but if not, we ask that you will join us in prayer on this very important day.

Christ’s peace,
Mike Smith”
