Greenwood District PACKING PARTY Set for October 29

Tdisaster responsehe Greenwood District Disaster Response Team is hosting a packing party on Saturday, October 29, beginning at 9:00 a.m., at the District Office, 1633 Rivers St., Greenwood, to fill cleaning kits (aka flood buckets) for the victims of Hurricane Matthew. Churches and individuals in the Greenwood District have contributed over $8000 for flood relief in the wake of Matthew.

We want to give a shout-out to Lowe’s of Greenwood for their generosity in assisting us with the purchasing of the buckets and all the materials needed to fill the empty containers. All materials will be delivered on pallets on Friday afternoon in preparation for the “party” on Saturday morning.

Everyone is invited to come join the fun.

If you or your church would like to contribute toward flood relief efforts, you may send your contributions to the Greenwood District Office, PO Box 49968, Greenwood, SC 29649. Make checks payable to the Greenwood District and note in the Item Line Flood Relief. All money sent to the Greenwood District will be used for flood relief in SC. You may also contribute online for general flood relief efforts in SC. General flood relief contributions may be made to UMCOR (United Methodist Committee on Relief) online.

Emergency Response Teams (ERTs) Desperately Needed in SC

SC-ERT-LogoThere is a critical need for ERT Teams from Myrtle Beach to Savannah and inland to Florence, Manning, Orangeburg, Allendale and Hampton Counties. Your help is desperately needed as we are basically on our own in SC with the massive amount of devastation from Florida to North Carolina and beyond. There is a whole lot of need and it is only going to get worse as the flood waters recede in some areas and access into all the devastated areas is opened.

We need you to respond individually and in groups. We can place you with teams already at work or those forming to go into action. We have churches lined up to house people including showers, electricity, and most are providing at least one meal a day.

Please spread the word and come join your brothers and sisters preforming “Christian Love in Action!”

You may call one of the team coordinators listed below directly or call Chuck Marshall, who is coordinating teams, individuals and housing at 803-386-7217 or

ERT Regional / Field Coordinators are:

1)      Rev. George Olive 843-446-4237 for the Myrtle Beach to Georgetown areas

2)      Rev. Ken Phelps 803-840-2005 for the Mannington to Georgetown areas.

3)      Billy Robinson 803-486-3781 for the Orangeburg / Calhoun County Areas

4)      Troy Thomas 803-603-1378 or 803-670-2023 for Summerville / Charleston area and the overall low country.

5)      Rev. David Phillips 843-380-9326 for the Charleston County / District Area

6)      Phyllis Brodie 843-816-5951 for the Bluffton / Hilton Head Areas.

Please do your best to come out and help during this time when so much overwhelming aid is needed across our state.

God Bless!

Billy Robinson – SC UMVIM ERT Coordinator
