September is Hunger Awareness Month in the Greenwood District

Hunger is a national and a global crisis situation. Please join us this month is striking a blow to hunger in our community and in the Greenwood District. Every 3.6 seconds a person dies of hunger and 75% are children.

Many people in our area are food-insecure, meaning they lack access at time to enough food for an active, healthy life and limited or uncertain availability of nutritionally adequate foods. Good insecurity may reflect a family’s need to make a choice between food and other basic needs such as housing or medical bills.

Churches in the Greenwood District are encouraging their members to use the September Hunger Awareness Calendar as a guide for collecting money during the month. On Sunday, October 4, all donations are to be brought to church for a time of dedication during the morning worship service.

For more information on how you can participate in the Hunger Awareness Month observance, please contact the Greenwood District Office (gwdist@umcsc.org).
